YSRCP to fight for 'Special Category Status' in the Parliament

AMARAVATI: With the Winter session of the Parliament coming near, the YSR Congress party held a meeting under the chairmanship of YS Jagan to discuss its stance in the forthcoming parliamentary session. It is decided that all the Loksabha and Rajyasabha MPs of YSRCP will fight it out for the Special Category Status in the Parliament.
During the meeting, which was attended by the top leaders of YSRCP, YS Jagan guided the party MPs to point out the failed promises of the Central government to the State with reference to the issue of special category status. It is to be noted that the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh along with the opposition BJP, agreed for according special category status to Andhra Pradesh post-bifurcation. However, the promise had been gradually sidelined despite BJP coming to power at the Centre.
Also, YSRCP aims to discuss various provisions of the Financial Resolution and Deposit Insurance Bill 2017 (FRDI) Bill and defections in the State Assembly. Opposition leader YS Jagan has already written a letter to the President of India in October, over action not being taken against the defected MLAs in the State Assembly. Further, the opposition party is also gearing up to put forward its report on the status of ‘Polavaram project’ for discussion in the parliament.
