Uttar Pradesh NTPC Tragedy: Over 25 Killed, Rahul Gandhi Meets Victims

Lucknow, November 2, 2017: In a major accident in National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) plant located at Unchahar in Rae Bareli, a boiler fire broke out in the blower. So far 25 people have been killed in this accident, while more than 100 laborers have injured out of which 22 people were seriously injured, have been referred to Lucknow. At the same time, 15 people have been admitted to Rae Bareli hospitals. Some of the injured have also been referred to Allahabad. The number of dead can increase in the accident. Principal Secretary (Home) said that the 32-member team of NDRF is engaged in rescue operations.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced a relief of Rs.2 lakh each to the families of those killed. Congress vice president and Raebareli MP Rahul Gandhi also expressed grief over the incident. He will leave his election tour in Gujarat and go to Rae Bareli on Thursday. After the accident, the official statement came from NTPC. It says that the incident is unfortunate. The incident happened in the 500-MW under the trial unit. Rescue operations are continuing with the district administration. Scorched people are being sent to local hospitals.

According to NTPC, leakage was done at the Boiler of Unit 6 at 3.30 pm Wednesday. After this, the workers were hit by hot gas and steam.
At the same time, after the NTPC incident, Union Health Minister, JP Nadda has sought information from UP Health Minister. He has tweeted about the accident that the NTPC accident is tragic. In case the Union Health Secretary is in constant touch with Uttar Pradesh Health Officers.

On the other hand, CM Yogi, who was on tour to Mauritius, took cognizance of the incident and directed the Principal Secretary (Home) to provide all possible assistance for rescue and relief work.

Rae Bareli's DM, along with other senior officials, have instructed the proper treatment of the injured. CM has instructed the victims to be treated at SGPG on a priority basis. It is also said that the Uttar Pradesh Government will bear the expenses of the treatment of the injured.

It is being told that at that time, about 150 workers were working in the plant at that time. Where this incident happened, there is a 500 MW power generation. Meanwhile, all the top officials, including DM, came to the spot. Lucknow Commissioner and IG also reached the spot. At the same time, directions were given to KGMU Lucknow for treatment. The district's CMO and CMS are present on the spot.

In this case, Rae Bareli DM Sanjay Khatri told that the accident occurred due to the split of the ash pipe due to pressure in the NTPC plant.
