Telangana Congress slams the Centre for withdrawing Haj subsidy

HYDERABAD: Hitting out at the Central government for canceling the Haj subsidy for 2018 Hajis, leader of the opposition in the State Legislative Council Mohd Ali Shabbir said that the Central government is taking anti-muslim measures right from its election in 2014. Shabbir said that the move from the Centre was to please the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu who is currently touring the country.
Shabbir criticised that the announcement from the Centre on scrapping of the subsidy has taken 1.75 lakh hajis by surprise, whose applications have already been processed and are actually preparing for the journey. He added that the NDA government is not interested in spending on Muslim minority community. “I request the State and the Central governments to at least provide medical camps at Jeddah, Mecca, and Madina for elders as it is our responsibility”, he said.
Earlier, Union Minister of Minority Affairs Mr. Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi announced the withdrawal of the Haj subsidy from the current year with immediate effect. The Minister clarified that the government intends to work for the development of the minorities without appeasement. It is learned that the Ministry of minorities is preparing a proposal to spend the saved funds on the Education and empowerment of women.
