Now NRIs Can Vote In the Elections Through Proxy

Good news for NRIs. The Union Cabinet cleared the proposal to allow proxy voting to Non-Resident Indians (NRI). This requires an amendment to the current electoral law- the Representation of the People Act. Currently, proxy voting is available to service personnel who are serving the country away from home. Now overseas Indians, who are away from constituencies where they are registered can use the option of proxy to vote.
As per Supreme Court’s recommendations, Center is working towards granting voting rights to the 25 million Indian Nationals living outside.
