PM Pays Tributes To Major Dhyan Chand On National Sports Day

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has congratulated all sportspersons and sports enthusiasts on the National Sports Day. Prime Minister also paid tributes to legendary Indian Hockey player Major Dhyan Chand.
“On National Sports Day, I congratulate all sportspersons and sports enthusiasts who pursue sports with great vigour and passion. I pay tributes to the exemplary Major Dhyan Chand, whose legendary sporting skills did wonders for Indian hockey. Sports is about physical fitness, mental alertness, and personality enhancement. India is blessed with immense sporting talent. To harness this potential, a portal was launched by India Sports. The National Sports Talent Search Portal gives essential direction & support to youngsters to pursue their sporting aspirations and shine”, the Prime Minister said.
The National Sports Day in India is celebrated on 29 August every year. This day marks the birthday of Dhyan Chand, the hockey player who won gold medals in Olympics for India in the years 1928,1932 and 1936. He scored over 400 goals in his career, from 1926 to 1948.
After putting his stamp on international hockey arena, and having served his country to reach its pinnacles of glory multiple times.He is a legendary figure in the Indian and world hockey. The most noted memorials for him is the Major Dhyan Chand Award, the highest award for lifetime achievement in sports and games in India, and the National Sports Day celebrations on his birthday.
