Muslim Minister Apologizes After Chanting 'Jai Shri Ram'

The JD(U) MLA from Sikati, Khursheed Ahmed, was sworn in the Bihar cabinet as the Ministry of Minority Affairs. Later in a speech, Mr. Ahmed chanted Jai Shri Ram in an attempt to show religious unity in India and preached Islam over tolerance and brotherhood. “Islam teaches us to love not hate our brothers,” he added.
This was later sharply condemned by many Muslim religious leaders across India. Imarat-Sharia slapped a fatwa against cabinet minister Khursheed Ahmed.
Khursheed Ahmed reacted to the fatwa by saying that would recite it 100 times more for Bihar’s development.
In a short span after consulting to the religious leaders, he later apologized. He quoted to the news reports, “I want to say sorry to those who have been hurt. Every person lives with his or her own beliefs and I did not abuse anyone. If anyone thought it was an abuse and would have come to me then I would have answered.”
