Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award For Sulabh Shauchalaya System Founder

The 18th Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award for Excellence in Academics, Public Administration and Management is presented to Dr. Bindeshwar Pathak by the President of India, Mr. Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Dr. Bindeshwar Pathak is the founder of Sulabh International  and pioneer in the development of a low cost  toilet technology known as Sulabh Shauchalaya system

Mr. Kovind recalled the former Prime Minister, Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri while speaking on the occasion. He elaborated on Lal Bahadur Shastri and praised his exceptional leadership qualities,  who believed in simple living.

Speaking about the award winner, Dr. Bindeshwar Pathak, Mr. President said that  Dr. Pathak contributed a lot in abolishing the practice of manual scavenging.  Dr. Pathak  also received the Padma Bhushan in 1991.

The President said that Dr. Bindeshwar Pathak has contributed to making revolutionary changes in society and has put into practice the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi, Baba Saheb Ambedkar and Lal Bahadur Shastri He also complimented the Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management for honouring people who have made such valuable contributions.

The Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management, set up in Delhi in 1995, has instituted the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award for Excellence in Academics, Public Administration, and Management.
