Ransomware Attack: Government Asks Microsoft for Discount

A major cyber attack worldwide disrupted computers in many firms and government institutions in India. Many government applications and private computers are currently running on Windows 95 and NT 2000 OS editions. These systems are prone to these attacks such as WannaCry. The older versions of OS are out of Microsoft support and do not receive security updates. So government would like update their systems to the newer versions, but it would cost a ton. So, the government has requested Microsoft to offer discount to its users in India to upgrade to latest operating system (OS).
Windows 10 Home, OS costs about Rs 8,000, while Professional edition costs about Rs 13,000. It is expected to get Rs.1000 discount per license.
