Republican Party of India (RPI) leader and MP Ramdas Athavale on Wednesday created laughter in the parliament. He is known as the leader who can drown opponents with laughter. He also addressed the Lok Sabha Speaker-elect Om Birla. “I would like to congratulate Congress President Rahul Gandhi,” he said. Rahul, who lost in Amethi, won from Wayanad, Kerala.
‘My congratulations to you for having the opportunity to sit there (on the opposition benches). You are my friends too. I am with you when you are in power. Anything can happen in a democracy. Congressmen called on us to come before the election. But, if you look at the wind, it’s going towards Modi. Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi, including Prime Minister Modi, laughed at these comments. Ramdas, formerly of the UPA alliance, had joined the BJP-led NDA alliance before the 2014 elections.
He said that the government is in power for five years and another five years and Modiji is doing a good job.
Ramdas Athawale was a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Council from 1990 to 1995 and a cabinet member in the Government of Maharashtra. Subsequently, he was elected to the Parliament of India, representing Mumbai North Central in the 12th Lok Sabha between 1998–99 and the Pandharpur constituency from 1999 to 2004.
