2G internet service restored in 20 districts in JK

The Modi government has given a gift to the people of Jammu and Kashmir on Republic Day. 2G internet service in 20 districts of the valley will be restored from Saturday. All postpaid and prepaid subscribers will get internet facility. People of Jammu and Kashmir will be able to open 301 websites, but social media apps will be banned.

2G mobile Internet services were earlier restored in all ten districts of Jammu and two districts of Kashmir, Kupwara, and Bandipora. Apart from this, Rohit Kansal, principal secretary of Jammu and Kashmir administration, said that voice call and SMS services for all pre-paid connections were restored. On August 5, after repeal of Section 370, telecom services were discontinued all over Jammu and Kashmir. There was a hearing in the Supreme Court recently on the restrictions imposed in Jammu and Kashmir. Hearing the petitions of Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad and others, the Supreme Court had said that the right to the internet comes under the right of expression and these are fundamental rights. The Supreme Court had asked the Jammu and Kashmir administration to restore internet services in all institutions providing essential services like hospitals, educational institutions.
