GUNTUR, OCTOBER 26, 2017: In the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014 many assurances are made, to do justice to people of newly formed state. The 13th schedule of the act gave direction to establish several central Government institutions and one among them is AIIMS.
While making review of progress of construction of AIIMS at Mangalagiri, Dr. Srinivasa,the AP state health minister explained that the said institute will be constructed in 3 phases. The first phase i.e., patient block and residency building is likely to be finished by December 2018.
Further, he said in the second phase, the hospital and medical college block will be constructed and in the third phase equipment would be purchased.
The Government is making efforts to begin admissions to AIIMS Mangalagiri from academic year 2018. As the hospital block will not be ready by that time; the students will be attached to Government hospitals available at Vijayawada, Tenali and Eluru in for medical practice.
Long time back in this 193 acres ground there was TB sanatorium and after its closure the place was occupied by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) unit. Now the NDRF will be relocated to new place within six months.
